Int'l Leadership Course for World Heritage Tourism and Peace Media

≪Program Rationale – The 3rd Peace Island School≫
Jeju Island has been declared a zone of peace by the Korean government in January of 2005, and both the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and the local business and cultural communities conduct many activities designed to promote world peace. As part of these efforts, Peace Island Summer School of Jeju National University open to bureaucrats, citizens and upper-level undergraduates as summer school in the summer of 2009 upon some achievements of 2007 Int’l Governance Summer School program (July 23- August 22, 2007) and the 2008 2nd Peace Island School ( August 11- 29,2008) by both the College of Arts and Science of Suffolk University, Boston of USA and the College of Law and Political Science of Jeju National University, Korea.
Opening in 2009, the summer session could contribute to or participate in management of the Jeju Volcanic Island Lava Tubes into the World Heritage (UNESCO), advancement of World Peace Island policy and Jeju Peace Industry, the 9th Peace Island Forum and the 2nd World Peace Island Film Festival workshop. We can provide some benefits to the participants with the internship of UNESCO World Natural Heritage sites, Jeju Peace Institute, Jeju April Third Peace Park, and so on. This help may come in the form of funding or participating in events.
The PIS Summer school will run for approximately 3 weeks from August 3 - August 21, 2009. This will include participation in the following program activities:
4 collaborative courses in 2009 Peace Island School will be offered as undergraduate courses, with each student expected to take three courses. Each course will be team-taught by 7 faculty members and one instructor. One professor will cover 6 hours lecturing in one week from Monday to Thursday and one instructor 3 hour lecturing including 3 hour research study. Classes will meet at Jeju National University (JNU). Courses will be taught in four weeks modules (48 hours lecturing including 3 hours lecturing in Young Professional session of the 9th Peace Island Forum). It is possible for the foreign lecturers to teach a course devoting only one week of their summer, as well as reducing the housing costs for instructors.
The 2009 Peace Island School is designed for around 80 ( 20 Foreign students or citizens, 60 Korean students including 22 bureaucrats of Jeju Provincial Government): Tuition for three courses: $1,500 per 9 credits ( per course : 500$)
Participation in the Young Professional Session of the 9th Peace Island Forum : $100
Funds will be sought from the Jeju Provincial Government to subsidize some of the tuition costs. The estimated net cost to each student would be around $2,200 if she or he takes three courses and participation in young professional session of the 9th Peace Island Forum.

4. Meals $300 (2 meals per day)
